As Time Goes By

If you are a Baby Boomer and you want to fully enjoy that upcoming retirement, then you owe it to yourself to make your personal fitness your top priority.

At Get Fit Boomer it is our mission to help you with inspiration, motivation, coaching, suggestions and information on how to achieve your goals.

We are not selling any products, equipment, club memberships or video presentations.

We are only a support group who want to help you have that body you always wanted, but were too busy to attain.


It's Time for You


 If you are like me, you have worked hard all your life and have sacrificed your own desires in order to benefit your children and family.

Now, like many our age, you are ready to enjoy the fruits of your work - ready to recapture those desires of your youth.

Maybe you want to purchase that classic car.  You know - the one you wanted when you were young, but couldn't afford.

Or maybe it's travel that entices you - you deferred so many vacations when you were younger.

But there is one thing you are going to have to deal with - and money alone won't fix it.  You don't look the same and perhaps you don't feel the same.


Live the Fantasy


 What was the road not taken in your youth?

Perhaps, like me it was that certain sports car.  Not just the car itself, but all the imagery that went with it.

Was it too expensive - or perhaps just not practical for the situation?  Then came the mortgage, the kids, education, etc. And the promises you mad to yourself got pushed off into a more distant future.

Now you think about it again, and you wonder how will this sixty year old body look behind the wheel?  What happened, it was just yesterday I was thirty-two?


What Happened?


Do you remember, as I do from my youth, that overweight people were a relative rarity in the 1950’s and 60’s?

What happened to us that sixty-six percent on the nation is overweight?

This is especially true for those over fifty.  However, after age eighty, that drops off sharply. 

Why?  Because overweight people die early and do not make it past eighty.

Well, what happened to us in the decades since 1960? 

To answer that, let’s try to remember what life was like when we were young.


But in ourselves


Who will be the master of your fate?

Will it be the junk food manufacturers?  They want you to stay addicted to their refined carbohydrates.

Will it be the entertainment industry?  They want you to remain a “couch potato” in front of that wide screen television.

Will it be the alcohol beverage business?  They want you to find escape from reality in their products.

Or will it be you, stepping up and stepping out of your usual comfort zone to change everything about your life.

Tomorrow truly is “the first day of the rest of your life.”  


Go For It


Who among us has not suffered "The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune?"

Have you been treated unfairly by a former employer?  Perhaps you were forced out because of your age (no one will admit it) or forced to retire early.

If not, consider yourself lucky.  Others have been.

Have you heard that “living well is the best revenge."  Well it is.

But by living well we mean a vigorous healthy life, not simply material wealth or soft living.

By enjoying the fruits of an active life of physical hardihood, you can learn to smile again as you think of that former boss and his stressed out life.


Take a Walk


Walking today is a pastime, both figuratively and literally. 

It is largely something done in retirement, a way to pass the time of day.  Who among us has the time to waste when other means of transport are available?

We live not near our workplace, autos and commuter rail come between. Even shopping and recreation are not close-by and time demands the wheel.

But yet, there is something salient in revisiting primitive ways.  And if we couple walking with vigorous exertion, there can be both physical and spiritual benefits.
